Ford Everest Brake Light Error
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Ford Everest owner experienced a brake light error, with the lights not functioning and an error message appearing. The issue was traced to a potentially faulty brake light switch. It was suggested that the problem might be due to not fully releasing the brake pedal, causing the switch to get stuck. After visiting a workshop, the issue was resolved without any parts or labor costs.

Interesting thought! I haven't really paid attention to how I press the brake pedal. How could that lead to the 'error stored in memory' and the light failure? Is that like short-circuiting something?

Not exactly short-circuiting, more like confusing the system. The car might think you're constantly slightly braking, which can trigger errors. I would still recommend getting the switch checked at a workshop. Better safe than sorry.

I appreciate the insight! I took it to a shop. Turns out I wasn't releasing the brake pedal fully. The switch got stuck but they managed to fix it on the spot. No parts or labor costs!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Brake lights went out, dash lit up. Have you considered you might be pressing the brake pedal awkwardly? Maybe your foot isn't fully releasing it after pressing.
