Ford Everest excessive smoke and DPF issue

I have a 2005 Ford Everest diesel with 124702 km. A warning light is on, and it's emitting excessive smoke during acceleration. The DPF regeneration doesn't seem to work. I suspect the exhaust back pressure sensor. Could that be it, or should I consider other factors?

Hey! I had similar issues with my Everest (diesel, but I don't recall the year). Warning light, smoke... sounds like the exhaust back pressure sensor for sure. Did you check the sensor's wiring and connections? Sometimes it's just a loose connection.

Thanks. Could you tell me which specific connections I should inspect? Are there any particular weak spots or common failure areas I should focus on?

Yeah, double-check the connector itself, make sure the pins aren't corroded or bent. Also, follow the wiring harness back as far as you can see, look for any chafing or damage where it might rub against the engine. If that checks out ok, it's most likely the sensor itself. I’d consider replacing it or taking it to the workshop. They can pinpoint the issue.

Following your advice, I had the exhaust back pressure sensor replaced. The warning light is off, smoke emission is normal, and the DPF regeneration is now working. The repair cost 245€. Thanks again for your help.
