Ford Explorer Hybrid Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid experienced engine stalling and a persistent check engine light, raising concerns about a potential fuel tank ventilation system failure. The issue was suspected to be related to the EVAP system, specifically the charcoal canister. After inspection, it was confirmed that the activated charcoal filter was defective, causing the problem. Replacing the filter resolved the issue, eliminating the check engine light and restoring smooth engine operation.

My fuel efficiency seems normal. I don't smell gas either. Where exactly is the charcoal canister located? Could a faulty pressure sensor also trigger these symptoms, or is it more likely an airflow problem?

The charcoal canister is part of the fuel tank ventilation system, often near the fuel tank. A defective activated charcoal filter is the most common cause for leak. You should bring it to a workshop to have it checked, they can easily diagnose the problem with a leak detection tool.

Thanks! I had it checked out, and it was indeed the activated charcoal filter. They replaced it, and the light is gone, and the engine runs smoothly again. Cost me 275€ Appreciate the help!

Sounds like a possible EVAP system issue. When the check engine light is on, does it affect your fuel efficiency? Have you noticed any unusual smells, or hissing sounds near the fuel tank or charcoal canister?
