Ford F Battery Draining Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Ford F diesel is experiencing a battery draining issue, with symptoms including weak and flickering lights, error messages, and difficulty starting the engine. The problem is suspected to be caused by a defective battery sensor, as indicated by error codes and a scanner. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle checked at a workshop to confirm the faulty sensor and address the issue promptly.

Thanks for your reply! I've checked the alternator, and it seems fine. The battery voltage drops significantly overnight, even without any obvious power drain. How did you solve your issue, and could you please elaborate on the defective battery sensor? Were the symptoms exactly the same?

Precisely the same symptoms. It drove me nuts for weeks! Turns out, the battery sensor was indeed faulty, causing incorrect readings and over-discharging the battery. Given your checks and the error codes you're seeing, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a workshop to confirm. They can properly diagnose the sensor and rule out other potential electrical gremlins far better than I can here. It is definitely something to address quickly, what do you think?

Thank you so much for confirming! I followed your suggestion and took it to a workshop. Indeed, the battery sensor was defective. The total repair cost was 315€. I appreciate your help!

Interesting. I had almost identical symptoms on my Ford F. Tell me, did you happen to notice if the problem started after a particularly cold night, or after the car sat unused for an extended period? Did you measure if your alternator is providing the correct voltage? Have you considered that a parasitic drain might be at play? What readings are you getting when you check the battery's voltage after the car has been sitting overnight?
