Ford F Overheating

Alright, I've got a head-scratcher. My 2014 Ford F with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. Mileage is sitting at 227664 km. The engine's been overheating like crazy lately! I've checked the coolant levels, which seem fine, but I suspect the electric fan isn't kicking in when it should. I've done some basic checks on the fan motor itself, and it seems okay. Is it possible a dodgy cable or plug connection could cause the overheating? Because that’s my gut feeling...

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Ford F with a gasoline engine is experiencing overheating issues despite normal coolant levels. The suspected cause is the electric fan not activating, potentially due to a faulty cable or plug connection. Basic checks on the fan motor show it is functional, suggesting the problem may lie in the relay or wiring. It is recommended to have a professional workshop diagnose and repair the issue, which was confirmed to be a defective cable/plug connection.

Hmm, sounds familiar. I had something similar happen on my F, though I can't remember the exact year. Overheating is no joke. Did you check the fan relay? Sometimes those can fail intermittently and cause the fan to not engage. Is the fan completely dead, or does it sometimes work? Any weird noises coming from the fan area before it started overheating?

Thanks for the quick response! I did a quick check on the relay, but honestly, I'm not 100% sure I tested it properly. I'll definitely give it another look. The fan seems completely dead. No signs of life whatsoever. And no, I haven't noticed any unusual noises before this overheating started. Any tips on how to thoroughly check the relay, or any specific wires I should be focusing on?

Okay, completely dead fan points even more towards a relay or wiring issue. Given that you've got no weird noises, it's probably not the fan motor itself seized up. Honestly, chasing electrical gremlins can be a pain. While you could spend hours probing wires, at this point, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted workshop. They've got the proper diagnostic tools to pinpoint the fault quickly. I ended up doing that, and it saved me a ton of time and frustration.

Appreciate the advice! You've confirmed my suspicions about the electrical side of things. Looks like I'll bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. For the record, the garage confirmed the problem was a defective cable/plug connection, and the whole repair cost 95€. Thanks again for the help!
