Ford F Transmission Issues

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the oil level yet, I assumed it was fine since the car's relatively new. Where exactly is the dipstick (if there is one)? And what kind of oil does this thing take? Is it something I can do myself, or am I better off taking it to a shop?

Okay, so, some models don't have a dipstick, which makes checking the level a bit of a pain. You usually have to remove a check plug on the side of the transmission while the engine is running and at operating temperature. As for the oil type, it's critical to use the correct specification. Using the wrong oil can seriously damage the transmission. Honestly, with those symptoms and not knowing the service history, I'd strongly advise taking it to a qualified workshop. They can check the oil level, top it off with the correct fluid, and properly diagnose the temperature sensor issue. It's a specialized job, and worth the money to avoid further damage.

You were spot on! Took it to the workshop, and turns out the gearbox oil level was indeed too low, causing the temperature sensor to go haywire. They topped it off, replaced the sensor (365€!), and now it's running like a champ again. Thanks a bunch for the advice! You saved me a ton of stress.

Hey there, I had something similar happen on my Ford F, although I didn't get the grinding noise. Did you check the transmission oil level? From the symptoms you described, especially the slipping and emergency mode, it really sounds like the oil level is low. These transmissions are super sensitive to oil levels. It might be worth checking before you start replacing sensors.
