Ford Figo 2018: Engine problems, high fuel consumption and black smoke - Is the fuel pressure regulator the culprit?

Hey guys, I'm having problems with my 2018 Ford Figo. It now has 109711 km on the odometer and runs on gas. I have a lot of black smoke when accelerating, the check engine light is on and the engine just stalls. It also lacks power, it runs unevenly, it jerks when accelerating and the fuel consumption is high. There is also a strong exhaust smell and it tends to stall when idling. I myself suspect that the fault lies with the fuel pressure regulator. Have any of you had similar experiences and can tell me how it went with your mechanic? Unfortunately, I had a bad experience on my last visit. I would be delighted to hear your experiences!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Ford Figo is experiencing engine problems, including black smoke, high fuel consumption, stalling, and a check engine light. The owner suspects the fuel pressure regulator might be the issue. However, another person with a similar experience suggests checking the fuel injection system, as cleaning and readjusting the injectors resolved their issues. The recommendation is to have the fuel injection system inspected by a mechanic.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I drive a 2015 Ford Mustang and once had a similar problem after changing the fuel filter. Black smoke, check engine light, rough running, high gas mileage...you name it. It was totally crazy. But in my case it wasn't a fuel pressure regulator problem, instead it was a fuel injection problem. My mechanic had to come in and clean and readjust the injectors. It was necessary to do this because otherwise the engine would have got worse. It was annoying, but well...that's the way it is sometimes. Maybe you should have your fuel injection system checked. Hope that helps you!

Thanks for the reply, really helpful info! Haven't had any problems with the fuel injection yet, but who knows. Do you remember how much the whole thing cost you? And have there been any other problems since then?

Sure, no problem. So, since the visit to the mechanic, the fault with the fuel pressure regulator has been rectified, so it's running perfectly again. After changing the fuel filter, I had a small error entry, but that only cost €45 to fix. Fortunately, I haven't had any further problems since then. I hope you have the same luck!

Great, thanks for the info! I'm reassured to know that there hasn't been another breakdown. I will definitely take my car to the mechanic now and hope that it goes just as smoothly for me. Wish me luck!
