Ford Flex radio reception issues
Summary of the thread
The 2014 Ford Flex is experiencing radio reception issues, with the infotainment system displaying error messages and audio cutting out. The problem is linked to a fault in the antenna signal, despite checking accessible connections. The suggested solution involves inspecting the antenna base for corrosion, which can cause poor reception. Ultimately, replacing the defective antenna resolved the issue, restoring clear radio signal reception.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't specifically checked the antenna base for corrosion. As for your question, it seems to affect both AM/FM. I don't have satellite radio, so I can't comment on that. Where exactly should I be looking for corrosion at the antenna base? Any specific signs I should look for?

Yeah, definitely check the base. On my Insignia, I had to peel back some of the rubber seal around the antenna to get a good look. You're looking for any white or green powdery stuff – that's corrosion. If it's corroded, cleaning it might help temporarily, but honestly, you'll probably need a new antenna. Given that it's both AM/FM, and you've already checked the accessible connections, it's pointing towards a faulty antenna or the wiring leading to it. I'd suggest visiting a workshop to have it checked.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to the shop; the antenna was indeed defective. They replaced it for 255€. Radio signal is crystal clear now.

Sounds familiar. I had similar problems with my old 2012 Opel Insignia. Weak signal, lots of interference. Before you tear everything apart, have you tried checking the antenna base itself? Sometimes water gets in there and corrodes the connection. Also, is it just AM/FM, or is satellite radio affected too?
