Yes, the error typically appears after pressing the brake pedal. Is it likely just the brake switch or could there be other potential causes? Is it safe to continue driving, or should I seek diagnostics and repair immediately?

From my experience, the brake switch was the culprit. However, since this is a safety feature, I strongly suggest taking it to a certified workshop ASAP. You can drive it until then, but be cautious.

Thank you for the information and advice. It appears the likely cause was user error. The brake light switch was not correctly set, which resulted in the stored error and warning message. No repairs were necessary, so the repair cost was 0€.

I also drive a Ford Focus and had similar problems. It could be a faulty brake switch. The error message popped up intermittently for me. Did the error show up after you pressed the brake pedal?
