Ford Focus Electric Keyless Entry Issue

I'm having a weird issue with my 2014 Ford Focus Electric. It's got about 142,000 km on it. Lately, I've been getting an error stored in the error memory. Also, the keyless entry is acting up - unlocking or locking doesn't always work. The most annoying thing is that I now need to have the key in the ignition to start the car. I suspect it's something to do with the bumper antenna. Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas where to start troubleshooting?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Ford Focus Electric is experiencing keyless entry issues, requiring the key in the ignition to start the car. The suspected cause is a faulty connection at the bumper antenna. The suggested solution is to check and clean the cable and plug connection at the antenna, which resolved the issue when addressed by a workshop.

Sounds familiar! I had something similar happen with my Focus. Check the cable and plug connection to the bumper antenna. A faulty connection there can cause all sorts of weird electrical issues. Have you had any work done recently that might have disturbed it?

Thanks for the tip! When you say 'cable and plug connection', are you referring to the connector that's actually on the antenna itself, or further back in the wiring harness? And how easy is it to access? I haven't had any recent body work, but I did have the bumper off a while back to replace a parking sensor.

Yep, I meant the connector right at the antenna. Since you had the bumper off, that's probably it. It's not super easy to get to, you might need to partially remove the bumper again. Honestly, if you're not comfortable messing with it, a workshop will probably charge about 95€ to fix it. They'll likely just clean the connection or replace the connector, if needed.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I checked the connection and it looked fine, so I took it to a workshop as you suggested. Turns out you were spot on - it was a bad connection at the antenna plug. They cleaned it and now everything is working perfectly again. Saved me a lot of headache!
