Ford Focus Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Ford Focus with a gasoline engine is experiencing stalling at idle, a weak engine, and an illuminated check engine light. The issue may be linked to a faulty fuel pressure regulator, especially after a recent fuel filter change. It is suggested to have the fuel pressure and regulator checked at a workshop, which ultimately confirmed the regulator was defective and replacing it resolved the problem.

It stalls now and then. I don't hear anything strange from the fuel pump. I don't have the tools to check the fuel rail pressure myself. How likely is it that the fuel pressure regulator is the problem, considering the symptoms and that I just changed the fuel filter?

With those symptoms and the recent filter change, a faulty fuel regulator is definitely possible. It controls the fuel pressure going to the engine. I'd recommend getting it checked out at a workshop. They can test the fuel pressure and how the regulator is working.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right. The fuel pressure regulator was indeed defective. Replacing it fixed everything. The repair cost 45€.

A pressure drop could cause misfires, but it could be other things. Does it stall all the time, or just now and then? Any weird noises coming from the fuel pump? Have you checked the fuel rail pressure?
