Ford Freestyle boost pressure sensor issue

I've got a 2006 Ford Freestyle with a gasoline engine. Lately, the check engine light comes on, and it's jerking when accelerating. I also hear a whistling, almost hissing sound. Sometimes it even stalls at idle. I've noticed higher fuel consumption and reduced engine power. Could a bad boost pressure sensor cause all this? I've checked the sensor, and the cable and plug seem okay, but could there be an intermittent issue there?

Summary of the thread

The 2006 Ford Freestyle was experiencing issues such as the check engine light, jerking during acceleration, a whistling sound, stalling at idle, increased fuel consumption, and reduced engine power. Initially suspected to be a faulty boost pressure sensor, the problem was later identified as a defective cable connection to the sensor. After professional inspection and repair, the vehicle's performance returned to normal.

Those symptoms sound familiar! I had a similar problem with my old Volvo V70. Check engine light, power loss, weird noises... it was driving me nuts! Have you tried looking closely at the intake manifold? Is it possible that you have a boost leak? What other components did you check, besides the sensor itself?

Intake manifold, huh? I hadn't focused on that. I was pretty sure it's the boost pressure sensor since all symptoms appeared at once. But now that you mention it, where exactly on the intake manifold should I be looking for a potential leak? Any common spots?

Well, with my Volvo, it turned out to be a cracked hose connected to the intake. Difficult to spot at first. But if you're experiencing hissing noises, it's likely you have a boost leak somewhere in the system. Given all the symptoms and your initial thought about the boost pressure sensor, I'd still recommend getting it checked professionally. Could be a defective sensor, or a leak somewhere else impacting the sensor readings. Why risk damaging the engine by driving it with a boost leak?

Thanks! So, I took your advice and visited my local workshop. Turns out, it was a defective cable connection on the boost pressure sensor, just as I suspected! They fixed it for 95€. Runs like new now.
