Thanks. I did a visual inspection of the wiring harness but didn't see anything obvious. I didn't do a continuity test, though. Could a partial wiring failure cause these symptoms?

Absolutely. A partial failure, like a frayed wire inside, might not be visible but can cause intermittent readings and throw off the sensor. Honestly, given the symptoms, it's probably the sensor itself. While you could chase wiring issues, it might be worth getting it checked by a professional. They have the tools to properly diagnose it. I ended up taking my Astra to a workshop.

I appreciate the guidance. I'm going to schedule an appointment with a technician, given the potential complexity of a partial wiring failure. I'm guessing the sensor replacement and labor will be around 245€.

Hey, I had something similar with my old 2012 Opel Astra. The symptoms sound almost identical. It turned out to be the same sensor, causing weird readings and triggering the smoke. Did you check the sensor's wiring harness for damage or corrosion? That's often overlooked.
