Ford Galaxy 2009: Locking difficulties and flickering lights

Hello folks! I am currently having some problems with my 2009 Ford Galaxy gasoline engine. The car already has 133,961 km on the clock. I can't lock or open the car and the lights are quite dim and sometimes flicker. I suspect that the fault could be somewhere in the electronics of the outside door handles. Have you ever experienced anything like this with your car and what was your experience with the mechanic? I recently had a not so good experience with the garage... I would love to hear your stories and advice! Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Ford Galaxy is experiencing issues with locking and unlocking, along with dim and flickering lights. The suspected cause is a fault in the electronics of the exterior door handles. A similar issue in another vehicle was traced to a faulty control unit, which required replacement. It is suggested to have the control unit checked as a potential solution.

Hi there, I have experienced similar issues with my 2012 Ford S-Max. On my car it was actually a problem with the control unit, which even explains the problem with the interior light fluctuations. Last time at the garage they found that the ECU was faulty. The whole process from reading the fault memory to the final repair was quite extensive. They had to replace the whole part. It was a serious problem, definitely not an everyday problem. So you might want to have the control unit checked. Hope this helps you! Best regards!

Thanks for your quick reply! That sounds like a pretty extensive repair... Do you happen to remember how much it cost you to fix the problem? And has anything else happened since this repair or is your car now running perfectly again? Many thanks in advance for your feedback! Best regards!

Yes, it was quite a job to fix it, but since then my car has been as good as new. The cost of fixing the faulty control unit is around €600. That may seem a lot, but the quality of the work was really worth it. The fault in the exterior door handle electronics has not been heard from since then and everything else is running smoothly. I have to say, the mechanic did a great job this time. Hope this helps you! Best regards!

Thank you very much for your detailed reply and the helpful information! It sounds like a big investment, but if the car runs smoothly again afterwards, then it's certainly worth it. I'll make an appointment at my garage and talk to them about the control unit. Your positive experiences are encouraging. Thank you again for your advice and support! Best regards!
