Ford GT Gear Shift Indicator Fault

Esteemed Ford GT owners, I write to you today with a perplexing issue. I own a 2004 Ford GT, gasoline engine, with 191761 km on the clock. Recently, I have encountered a fault with the gear shift indicator display. Symptoms include an inability to engage the gears, implausible shifting behavior from the automatic transmission, the gearbox slipping or shifting uncleanly, grinding noises during gear shifts, and an error stored within the error memory. Furthermore, the gear selection display in the speedometer is non-functional. Could this be the defective control unit as suggested? Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I have a GT, and I recall facing related, if not identical, symptoms not too long ago. Was the error intermittent at first? Did you notice any correlation between the ambient temperature and the frequency of the problem? In my experience, the electronic display issues can manifest in rather strange ways. Have you tried any basic troubleshooting steps, such as checking the fuses related to the transmission control unit?

Thank you for your swift response! The error was indeed intermittent initially, and I did observe a potential correlation with temperature, it worsened in colder conditions. I have checked the fuses, and they appear to be in order. Is it possible the control unit is indeed the source of the issue, given these symptoms?

Given the intermittent nature and temperature sensitivity you've described, and that you've already checked the fuses, it does sound very much like a failing control unit. With those symptoms and all the testing you have done, I would suggest taking it to a reputable workshop with Ford GT experience for a diagnostic assessment.

I appreciate your insights and assistance! I will schedule a diagnostic appointment with a qualified workshop. The anticipated repair cost of 1000€ seems reasonable, considering the complexity of the issue. Your input has been invaluable in guiding me toward a resolution.
