Ford Ikon Check Engine Light Fuel Consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Ford Ikon diesel with 182,300 km is experiencing a check engine light and increased fuel consumption. Diagnostics suggest a fault in the inlet VANOS mechanics, possibly due to a defective camshaft solenoid valve or a power supply issue. A similar case was resolved by replacing the faulty solenoid valve, and it is recommended to have a mechanic confirm the diagnosis. After replacing the inlet camshaft solenoid valve, the vehicle's performance improved significantly.

Thanks for the quick reply. No misfires, but I have felt a slight reduction in power, especially when accelerating. How did you resolve the issue with your Ikon?

In my case, replacing the faulty solenoid valve resolved the problem entirely. However, given the symptoms you describe and the diagnostic codes, I'd recommend a thorough inspection by a qualified mechanic to confirm the diagnosis before replacing parts. You could also have the VANOS unit tested to see if its damaged.

Thanks for confirming. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the inlet camshaft solenoid valve was faulty. The repair, including parts and labour, came to around 250€. Runs like new now!

I had a similar issue with my Ikon. I would check the camshaft solenoid valves. Are you experiencing any low power or engine misfire symptoms?
