Ford Ikon Headlight Range Control Error

Hi, I have a 2011 Ford Ikon diesel with 195190 km. I'm getting an error related to the headlight range control. There's a warning light on the dash, and the low beams seem to shine too low or too high. Any ideas?

Greetings. The symptoms you describe, specifically the error memory code and the erratic beam angle, strongly suggest a malfunction within the auto-leveling system. This system typically employs servomotors to adjust the headlight angle based on vehicle load and road conditions. The control module interprets data from sensors to maintain optimal light intensity and beam direction. Have you noticed if this occurs consistently, or only under specific conditions, such as carrying a heavy load?

Thanks for the reply. It seems to happen all the time, regardless of load. Is there anything I can check myself before taking it to a mechanic?

Given that the issue persists regardless of load, it's less likely to be a simple sensor malfunction. It's more probable that the servomotor within the headlight assembly itself is defective. While you could visually inspect the wiring harness connecting to the headlight for any obvious damage, further diagnosis requires specialized tools. My recommendation would be to visit a qualified workshop equipped to diagnose and potentially replace the faulty headlight unit. Without proper equipment, attempting a repair could exacerbate the issue.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and as you suspected, it was indeed a defective servomotor in the headlight. The total repair cost was 1040€. All fixed now!
