Ford Ikon water sensor malfunction

I'm pulling my hair out! My 2013 Ford Ikon diesel has the check engine light on, and my code reader says water sensor malfunction. The engine's running rough, especially at lower RPMs. I suspect a bad connection or a bum plug on the sensor, given the potholes I deal with. Anyone seen this?

I had the same problem on my Ikon. The check engine light would come on and off, and it ran like a tractor sometimes! It was a real pain. Are we talking about the sensor that detects water in the fuel filter? That's the one that gave me grief.

That's precisely the one – the water-in-fuel sensor. Was your issue indeed with the sensor connections, as I suspect? What did it cost to fix?

Yes, that’s exactly it. While I initially suspected the sensor itself, it ended up being a faulty connection. Given the symptoms you describe, it would be best to take your car to a reputable mechanic. They will perform a thorough check of the sensor, the wiring, and the ECU. Better safe than sorry, especially when dealing with engine management systems.

For anyone battling the Ford Ikon water sensor issue: It was a dodgy connection. Cost 95€ for the fix. Runs like a charm again! The advice helped me focus the mechanic.
