Ford Ka diesel engine noise and oil pressure issues

My 2015 Ford Ka diesel has started showing some worrying signs at 187768 km. The oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and there's this awful loud mechanical noise coming from the engine. I've checked the oil level; it's fine. Could it be the oil pressure sensor, or am I looking at something more serious like the engine bearings? I had an oil change 10000km ago, do you think it could be the oil viscosity?

Sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle. I had something similar happen with my Ka – not sure what year yours is, but the symptoms are spot on. Low oil pressure and engine noises? It could be the oil pump failing. Think of it like your heart struggling to pump blood; everything starts to suffer.

Thanks for the quick reply! Oil pump, eh? That sounds expensive. What sort of noises were you hearing? And were they constant, or did they come and go? Did the oil pressure sensor light stay on?

The noise was a constant clattering, like someone was tap-dancing inside the engine. And yeah, the oil pressure light was on more often than off. Sadly, it was the oil pump. Don't delay, get it looked at ASAP; running it like that can cause some serious damage. I'd say take it to a workshop.

Thank you so much for your advice. I've taken it to the workshop, and you were spot on - the oil pump was defective. It cost me 755€ for the repairs. Lesson learned: don't ignore strange noises! I'm grateful for your help; at least I knew what to expect.
