Ford Ka Engine Knocking
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Ford Ka is experiencing engine knocking, reduced power, jerking during acceleration, and exhaust smoke, possibly due to pre-ignition from carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. The issue might be exacerbated by using lower octane fuel. Suggested solutions include using higher octane fuel and having the combustion chamber professionally cleaned or the engine tuned by a mechanic.

I'm using the recommended fuel, but I'll try higher octane next fill-up. If it's not the fuel, should I clean the combustion chamber? Did you fix this yourself?

Higher octane might help a bit, but won't fix the real problem. Premium fuel didn't solve it for me. I had to get the combustion chamber professionally cleaned at a workshop. The deposits were really stuck on. Get a mechanic to check it and clean it properly or tune the engine. That's what fixed it for me.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like a workshop visit is needed. I've been quoted 425€ for the cleaning, which seems okay considering the potential damage. Thanks again!

I had something similar with my Ka. Knocking, power loss, and jerking sounds like pre-ignition from carbon deposits. What fuel octane are you using? Lower octane can make it worse.
