Ford Kuga incorrect fuel composition error

I am furious! My 2017 Ford Kuga diesel is displaying an 'incorrect fuel composition' error. The check engine light comes on, and the engine stalls at idle. I checked the error memory, and the error is stored there. Could there be a serious issue with the fuel system?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Ford Kuga diesel displayed an 'incorrect fuel composition' error, causing the engine to stall at idle. This issue was potentially linked to a defective cable or plug connection affecting the fuel composition sensor, leading to incorrect readings by the ECU. A clogged fuel filter was also considered a possible cause. The problem was resolved by repairing the faulty connection at a workshop.

I encountered a similar problem with my Opel Insignia. 'Incorrect fuel composition' can be triggered by a defective cable or plug connection. Have you checked the fuel filter recently, and when was the last time it was changed? I'd also listen for any unusual engine knock.

Thanks for your input! How could a defective cable or plug connection lead to this? I haven't checked the fuel filter, but could a partially clogged filter really cause the engine to stall and throw that specific error? I had a similar issue on an older car and it sounded a lot like fuel contamination.

Yes, a faulty connection can disrupt the signal from the fuel composition sensor, causing the ECU to misinterpret the fuel mixture. A clogged fuel filter restricts flow, potentially leaning out the mixture enough to cause stalling and trigger the error. Based on your description, I would take it to a workshop for a professional diagnosis.

You were right. Apparently, the error was caused by a defective cable or plug connection of the component causing the incorrect fuel composition reading. The workshop repaired the connection for 95€. Thanks for the tip!
