Where exactly is that control unit located? And what kind of connections are we talking about? Any specific wires I should be looking at?

It's usually near the engine, but I can't recall the exact location. Honestly, without knowing your way around the engine, you're probably better off having a workshop check it out.

Okay, I hear you. Took it to a shop, and you were spot on! Turns out it was a defective cable to the glow plug control unit, just like you said. Cost me 95€ to fix. Thanks for the help!

I had a similar issue with my Ranger. Check the glow plug control unit and its connections. A faulty connection there could cause all those symptoms.
