Ford Ranger Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Ford Ranger with nearly 200,000 km was experiencing engine overheating, a check engine light, and coolant leakage. The initial suspicion was a control unit communication error. A suggestion was made to check the wiring and plugs for loose or corroded connections, which could cause such issues. Upon taking the vehicle to a mechanic, it was confirmed that a defective cable or plug connection was the problem, and fixing it resolved the issues.

Wiring and plugs, huh? I haven't really looked at that. I'm not much of a mechanic, to be honest. The error code came up when I hooked up a cheap OBD2 scanner I bought online. Is it really possible it's just a bad connection? It seems way more serious when the engine's overheating and coolant is spewing out!

Yeah, I get that it seems serious, but honestly, a faulty connection can cause all sorts of weird issues. My Astra was acting like it was possessed! It’s worth checking before you spend a fortune on new parts. But, if you are not really into getting your hands dirty, I would just take it to a workshop and let them figure it out. It’s better to be safe than sorry. They can properly diagnose the issue and make sure everything is fixed correctly.

Thanks for the advice! You were spot on! I took it to a mechanic, and it turned out to be a defective cable or plug connection. They fixed it for 95€, and now everything's running smoothly again! I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra. Engine overheating, check engine light...turned out to be a bad connection. Have you checked the wiring and plugs going to the control modules? It could be something as simple as a loose or corroded connector. Where did you get the information about the control unit communication error from?
