Ford Ranger power steering fault

Hi, I've got a 2019 Ford Ranger with a diesel engine, and the power steering is acting up. The steering wheel vibrates, handling feels spongy, and the error memory has logged a fault. It also takes significantly more effort to steer, like the power steering assist has failed. It feels like trying to steer a boat without a rudder! Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Greetings! While I drive a Ford Ranger myself, albeit a slightly older model, I did encounter a comparable predicament not too long ago. The symptoms you have described are rather familiar. Tell me, have you had a chance to inspect the cable and plug connections related to the power steering component? A defective connection could potentially explain the issues you are currently facing. It would be like a loose wire causing a light bulb to flicker. Is your model equipped with electric power-assisted steering (EPAS)?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, my Ranger does have EPAS. You mentioned checking the cable and plug connections - were yours visibly damaged, or was it more subtle, like corrosion?

In my circumstance, the damage was not immediately apparent upon visual inspection. We employed diagnostic tools at the workshop that revealed erratic signals stemming from a corroded connector within the steering column. The similarity of your situation to mine is noteworthy. Given the potential complexity of these systems, I would strongly urge you to seek guidance from a qualified technician. It is generally more prudent to seek professional assistance than to attempt repairs oneself, unless one possesses the requisite expertise. Further investigation is advisable to ascertain the true nature of the anomaly.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on! Turns out it was a defective plug connection on the steering column. They cleaned it up and secured it properly, and everything's working fine now. Total cost was only 95€, so I dodged a bullet there. Appreciate the help!
