Ford Transit 2012: Power loss, battery problems and electrical faults - What could it be?

Hey guys, my Ford Transit (model year 2012, gasoline engine) has been acting up lately. I've noticed that it loses power while driving, the battery weakens when starting and I'm having problems with the electrics in general. Could there be something wrong with the high-voltage system? Do you have any tips or experience as to what this could be and how I can get it fixed in the workshop? Any help is welcome!

Summary of the thread

A Ford Transit 2012 is experiencing power loss, battery weakening during starts, and general electrical issues. The potential cause could be a defect in the high-voltage system or an old battery, as the battery is around four years old. The suggested solution is to have the battery tested at a garage to determine if it needs replacement, as this could resolve both the battery and high-voltage system issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I'm not a car mechanic, but I do have some experience with cars. I had a similar problem with my Ford Galaxy (built in 2010), defect in individual parts in the high-voltage system, just as you say. The good news: I didn't have to pay anything at my garage, thanks to the warranty. They fixed it free of charge, so 0 euros. Can you give us more information about your battery? How old is it and when was it last changed? That might help to give a more thorough answer.

Thanks for your quick reply. I think my battery is about 4 years old. I can't say for sure exactly when it was last changed, but my last major inspection was at 140536 km. The battery was also tested then and found to be good. Maybe it has given up the ghost since then? Thanks for any further tips!

Hey, no problem! Well, a 4 year old battery could be the culprit, especially if you've noticed that it weakens when starting. There could of course be other causes, but an old or weak battery would be my first guess. My advice would be to have your battery tested at a garage. It's done pretty quickly and then you'll know exactly whether it's still good or whether you need a new one. The high-voltage system faults could also be related to the battery not supplying enough juice. It's best to make an appointment at the workshop and have it checked. Good luck with that!

Hey, thanks for your advice. I'll head to the garage and have the battery checked. It would be great if that's the cause and I don't have any more problems with the high-voltage system. I'll keep you up to date. See you then!
