Ford Transit Cold Start Problems

My 2009 Ford Transit with a gasoline engine has 152025 km. I've noticed engine performance is worse when starting cold. It runs poorly on start-up, with a rough idle and occasional misfires. It's also hard to start, needing multiple tries, especially when it's cold. I suspect a problem with the fuel delivery system, maybe a bad cold start injector. Has anyone had similar issues or have ideas on what could cause this and how to fix it?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Ford Transit with a gasoline engine was experiencing poor performance during cold starts, including rough idling and misfires. The suspected cause was a problem with the fuel delivery system, particularly a bad cold start injector. After consulting with others who had similar issues, it was suggested to check the fuel injectors. Upon inspection by a mechanic, a faulty cold start injector was identified and replaced, resolving the starting issues and improving engine performance.

Whoa, sounds rough! I had something kinda similar happenin' with my Transit, though I don't remember the exact year model. Hard starts, especially when it was chilly outside, were a total pain. And yeah, the engine idled like it was gonna shake itself apart for the first few minutes. I'm no expert, but it definitely felt like a fuel issue. Have you checked the fuel rail pressure or looked at the injectors themselves? A bad injector can cause all sorts of havoc with the fuel/air mixture. That could explain the poor running and hard starting in the cold. Seriously annoying, right?

Thanks for your response. The symptoms you describe are very similar to what I'm experiencing. Could you give more details on how you checked the fuel rail pressure and injectors? Any extra details about your experience would be great.

Well, I wish I could give you some super techy details, but honestly, I'm not that mechanically inclined. When it happened to me, I poked around a bit, checked for any obvious leaks or damage (didn't find anything), and then just took it straight to my usual workshop. I remember the mechanic saying something about testing the injectors and finding one that wasn't spraying properly. Apparently, that one bad injector was messing up the whole fuel system during cold starts. I'd strongly suggest getting your injectors checked out properly – could save you a load of headaches!

Thanks for the help. Your suggestion to get the fuel injectors checked was right. I saw a mechanic who did tests and found a bad cold start injector, which I had replaced. The repair was 515€. Now, the engine starts quickly and runs smoothly, even when it's cold. Thanks again; your help fixed this.
