Ford Windstar exhaust back pressure sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Ford Windstar was experiencing a warning light on the speedometer and smoke during acceleration, suspected to be due to a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. This issue can lead to sluggish engine performance and potential damage to the emission control system. It was advised to confirm the problem at a workshop, where the sensor was replaced, resolving the issue and restoring the vehicle's performance.

Yeah, the engine feels a bit sluggish. How crucial is it to replace this sensor immediately? I'm trying to gauge the urgency.

Well, if it's genuinely the exhaust back pressure sensor, it could lead to more serious issues down the road. A defective sensor can cause your engine to run inefficiently, and prolonged exposure to that can damage other components. My advice is to take it to a workshop and let them confirm it.

Thanks! Workshop confirmed it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Got it replaced for 245€. Runs like a champ now!

That sounds like it could definitely be the exhaust back pressure sensor. Is your engine performance suffering? Like, is it sluggish or idling rough? A bad sensor can really mess with your emission control system, too.
