Fortuner audio system failure
Summary of the thread
The audio system in a 2011 Toyota Fortuner stopped working entirely, with no sound output. The fuses were checked and found to be fine, but an error was stored in the system memory. The issue was likely due to a defective display module, possibly exacerbated by extreme heat. A qualified technician diagnosed the problem, confirming the display unit as the cause, and replacing it resolved the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! No jump starts or anything like that recently. The only thing I can think of is that it was a really hot day last week, and the car was sitting in the sun for a while. Could the heat have damaged the display unit?

Extreme heat could certainly exacerbate an existing weakness in the display, leading to failure. Given the symptoms and the stored error, a defective display module remains the most probable cause. I would strongly recommend having a qualified technician diagnose the specific error code. The repair, involving module replacement, could cost around 725€.

Thanks a lot for your help. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on – it was the display unit. They replaced it, and now the sound system is working perfectly again. Cost me 725€, just as you predicted! I appreciate the advice.

It sounds like a defective display could indeed be the culprit, especially given the error code and complete lack of audio. Think of it like a central nervous system for your audio; if the 'brain' (display) is faulty, the 'body' (speakers, amp) won't function. Before tearing anything apart, do you recall any recent events that might have caused this, like a jump start or work on the electrical system?
