Fortuner Gearbox Slipping Grinding
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Toyota Fortuner is experiencing gearbox issues, including slipping, poor shifting, and grinding, with the engine light on and an error stored. The suspected cause is a faulty transmission oil pressure sensor, but low gearbox oil is also considered a potential cause. It is suggested to check and possibly refill the gearbox oil, as low oil levels can lead to these symptoms, and to have the vehicle inspected by a workshop to rule out mechanical damage.

Thanks, I appreciate hearing about your experience. Can you give me more specifics? Did the low oil directly relate to the sensor fault and the symptoms you saw?

Yes, low oil was the main problem for me. I first thought it was the pressure switch, but adding oil fixed it. Since you mentioned grinding, get it checked by a workshop to rule out mechanical damage. I paid 365€ to have mine checked and refilled.

Thanks for the help and sharing your experience. I'll get it inspected at a workshop. It sounds like low oil and maybe sensor issues need expert attention. Hopefully, my bill will be similar.

I had a similar experience with my Toyota Fortuner. Your symptoms sound familiar. Did you check the oil level? Low oil can cause these issues by affecting transmission pressure.
