Fortuner preheating lamp stays illuminated
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Toyota Fortuner diesel is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp staying illuminated and the check engine light being on, accompanied by smoking during acceleration. The suspected causes include a faulty glow control unit or bad cables or plugs. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed and repaired at a workshop, which successfully resolved the issue by addressing the glow control unit and a bad connector.

Thanks for the quick reply. No misfires so far. Can you tell me more about what happened with yours and how you fixed it?

Okay, mine was definitely misfiring on top of everything else you described. I was hoping it was a simple fix, but it turned out to be related to the glow control unit like you suspected. Honestly, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose and replace any faulty components.

I took it in as you suggested. It was the glow control unit and a bad connector. Got it fixed for 95€ Thanks again.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I've got a Fortuner too (though not sure the exact year atm), and I had similar issues a while back. Check engine light, wouldn't switch off the preheating, the works. Was your engine misfiring at all?
