Fuel efficiency has definitely taken a hit. How did you diagnose the fuel pressure regulator specifically? Did you experience engine misfires too? Also, where is the pressure sensor located? Did you change it yourself?

I didn't diagnose it myself, to be honest. The symptoms were so similar to what I'd read about a defective fuel regulator that I suspected it right away. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it. I really recommend you do the same!

I think you're right; I'll take it to a workshop. Turns out the fuel pressure regulator was indeed defective, probably from a bad error entry after changing the fuel filter. Repair cost was about 45€ Thanks for the advice!

I also own a Fortuner, and your problem sounds incredibly familiar! Reduced engine power and a rough idle? That's how mine started. Have you checked the fuel efficiency lately? A faulty fuel pressure regulator can really mess that up. It’s like trying to run a marathon with your shoelaces tied together.
