Function of ABS system
The ABS sensor, also known as the wheel speed sensor, plays an essential role in modern braking systems. It continuously measures the speed of each wheel and transmits the data to the control unit of the anti-lock braking system (ABS).
When sudden braking occurs, the ABS compares the wheel speeds. If it detects a disproportionate drop, which could be an indication of a locked wheel, it selectively reduces brake pressure to prevent locking. This process enables the vehicle to remain maneuverable even during emergency braking, thus significantly increasing road safety.
