When the vehicle is switched off, even if the control units are "asleep", a small current usually always flows. This current is called quiescent current and can vary between different makes and models.
The phenomenon of quiescent current violation describes when the amount of current flowing exceeds the values specified by the manufacturer. This means that even if the vehicle is "asleep", there is an increased current flow. Such a condition is detected by the battery sensor. This is able to detect unusual quiescent current activity and sends an error message to the control unit.
