Functionality boost pressure controller
The boost pressure control in turbochargers sets the optimum boost pressure. Depending on the operating situation, the boost pressure is either controlled, based on predefined maps, or regulated by detecting the current boost pressure by means of a boost pressure sensor and calculating the required duty cycle by the engine control unit.

Turbochargers with variable turbine geometry (VTG) are often used for this purpose. Adjustable guide vanes around the turbine wheel on the exhaust side influence the exhaust gas driving force on the turbine and the boost pressure. They are actuated by an adjusting lever mounted on the turbine housing and controlled by a control unit permanently mounted on the turbocharger.
