Typical consequences

If this defect is detected, it may lead to the following problems:

  • Malfunction of the brake system
  • Danger of life in emergency situations
  • Failure of the general inspection (may not apply in your country)

Function brake light switch

The brake light switch is responsible for switching the brake lights on and off as soon as the driver operates the brake pedal. Placed directly behind the brake pedal, it is attached to the brake pedal with a plastic pin. When the brake pedal is operated, the plastic pin is retracted into the brake light switch, closing the circuit and sending the signal to the control unit.

The control unit responds to this signal by directing the current to the brake lights. It also provides important information for other systems in the vehicle, such as the anti-lock braking system and electronic stability control.
