Function of electric handbrake
The electromechanical parking brake (EMF), which replaces the traditional handbrake, uses electric motors that are either mounted directly on the rear axle brake calipers or occasionally operate Bowden cables. The simple design consists of an electric motor on the brake caliper that uses a spindle drive to press the brake pads against the brake disc.
Hall sensors monitor the contact pressure of the brake pads. The switch to EMF brings advantages such as increased interior space and the possibility of integrating new assistance systems. In addition, it enables automatic activation when the vehicle is parked, which increases safety.
