Functionality engine oil temperature sensor

The engine oil temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the engine oil. A correct temperature is an important indicator of the engine condition. It is also important to note that maximum performance should only be demanded when the engine is sufficiently warmed up. Likewise, the exhaust or emission management changes with the engine temperature and is designed for an engine at operating temperature.

When an engine overheats, not only does the oil quality suffer in the long term, there is also a risk of significant engine damage. Depending on the cause of the overheating, this can lead to "piston seizure", tearing of the lubricant film and heat or friction damage to the crankshaft and camshaft, for example.
