Function of the tank ventilation

The Tank Leakage Diagnostic Module (DMTL) monitors fuel gases and detects leaks in the system. An air pump is used to create a vacuum while the DMTL valve is closed. An internal tank pressure sensor serves as a reference value. If everything is intact, the vacuum remains stable.

A lack of vacuum indicates a leak, whereupon the engine control light flashes. Internal testing is done periodically to prevent unfiltered fuel leaks and environmental damage. DMTL ensures that fuel vapors are safely exhausted or fed to combustion instead of being released into the environment. This ensures environmental protection and prevents fuel loss.
