Functionality of tire pressure control

Since 2014, all new EU cars must have a tire pressure monitoring system. However, some manufacturers have already installed it before then. The system prevents accidents caused by incorrect tire pressure. A creeping flat tire often goes unnoticed. It also monitors tire pressure for optimal driving.

The right pressure is important for safety, fuel efficiency and tire wear. There are different systems: the direct one, with sensors in the valves, and the indirect one, which measures the pressure based on tire behavior. The choice of the appropriate tire pressure monitoring system depends on the vehicle manufacturer, who can use either the direct or indirect system.
