Interesting issue. I have a Freed as well. Does your brake light work properly? I had a similar problem once, and it turned out to be a faulty brake light switch. The cruise control is disabled if the car thinks you're braking. Have you checked the steering wheel controls, the speed sensor or maybe the throttle position?
