Freed Fuel Tank Ventilation Leak

Check engine light on my 2022 Honda Freed with gasoline engine, stalls at idle. Diagnostics suggest fuel tank ventilation leak. Could it be the activated charcoal filter?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Honda Freed experienced stalling at idle and a check engine light, with diagnostics indicating a fuel tank ventilation leak. The issue was suspected to be related to the activated charcoal filter. After confirming the defect through a smoke test, the filter was replaced, resolving the problem and eliminating the check engine light.

Sounds like a classic EVAP system issue. Is the purge valve clicking excessively? Check for cracks or damage to the charcoal canister hoses. Is your fuel efficiency lower than usual?

I'll check the purge valve. If it's the activated charcoal filter, is replacement the best option? Is a smoke test needed, or are there other leak detection methods?

If you suspect the charcoal filter and you've checked the hoses, yeah, replacement is likely the fix. A smoke test is the best way to pinpoint leaks, but at that mileage, it's probably the filter itself. Honestly, with those symptoms, you might be better off taking it to a workshop. Seems like you already know what it is, though!

Confirmed defective activated charcoal filter via smoke test at a local workshop and replaced it. Total cost was 275€. The engine now runs smoothly, and the check engine light is off.
