Freed hybrid overheating coolant leak

Hey, I've got a weird issue with my 2022 Honda Freed hybrid. The engine's been overheating, and the check engine light is on. I also noticed some coolant leaking under the car – seems like excessive pressure. I've checked the coolant level, which is fine, but I suspect something's up with the control unit. Anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Honda Freed hybrid is experiencing engine overheating and a coolant leak, with the check engine light illuminated. The issue may be due to a control unit communication error, possibly involving a CAN bus issue affecting the engine cooling system. It is suggested to check cable and plug connections related to the engine temperature sensor and cooling system control. Ultimately, professional diagnosis and repair are recommended to prevent further engine damage, which led to the discovery and repair of a defective plug connection on the control unit.

Sounds like a potential control unit communication error, especially with the overheating and coolant spill. Do you have a diagnostic trouble code (DTC)? The error codes will help narrow down the problem. It could be a CAN bus issue affecting the control module's communication with the engine cooling system. Check the cable and plug connections. A connectivity issue can cause all sorts of mayhem.

Thanks for the quick reply! I don't have a DTC reader myself. Where exactly should I be looking for these cable and plug connections? Is it something I can easily access, or am I better off taking it to a professional?

Without the specific DTC, it's tricky to pinpoint the exact location. The connections related to the engine temperature sensor and cooling system control are good starting points. But given the hybrid system and the potential for misdiagnosis, plus the overheating, I strongly suggest taking it to a workshop. Continuing to drive it could cause serious engine damage. They can properly diagnose the control unit and CAN bus connectivity.

Appreciate the advice! Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a defective plug connection on the control unit. They fixed it for 95€ Thanks again for the help!
