Freelander Electric Seat Failure, Fix & Cost Guide

Hey all! My 2013 Freelander TD4 (173k km) is giving me headaches with the electric seats. They've stopped working properly and I've got a warning light on the dash. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar electric seat issues in their Freelander? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking for some honest feedback before I pick a shop to fix this. Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2010 Land Rover Discovery 4 TD4. The electric seats stopped working last month, and the warning light came on too. At the garage, they found it was just a faulty connection in the wiring harness under the seat. The cables had worked loose over time and were causing intermittent connection problems. The mechanic cleaned the connectors, secured them properly, and checked the entire seat wiring circuit. It wasn't a serious repair at all, no need to replace any major components. The job took about an hour once they figured out the exact problem. Pretty common issue with these models as they age. Just make sure your mechanic checks the connections first before jumping to replace the entire seat motor or control module. Sometimes it's these simple electrical issues that cause the biggest headaches.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know it was just a wiring issue. Would you mind telling me how much the repair ended up costing you? And just curious, have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up since they fixed it? I'm trying to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise, and whether these seat issues tend to come back.

Hey there! Happy to help with an update on my Discovery 4 seat situation. The repair cost me 95.00 € in total, pretty reasonable considering I was worried it might be something major! The mechanic found it was just a dodgy cable connection that needed fixing. Since they sorted it out, the electric seat has been working perfectly, no more warning lights or problems. It's been such a relief! To answer your other question, nope, haven't had any other electrical issues pop up since then. The seat moves smoothly in all directions now, just like it should. I think finding a good mechanic who actually takes the time to diagnose the real problem rather than just replacing parts made all the difference. My advice would be to get it checked out, these seat issues are usually pretty straightforward to fix when you've got someone who knows what they're doing. Definitely worth sorting before it potentially gets worse!

Hey, thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! Took your advice and finally got my Freelander's seat issue sorted yesterday. You wouldn't believe it, turned out to be almost exactly what you described! The mechanic I found was really thorough and discovered a loose connection in the wiring harness. They also found some corrosion on the connectors that needed cleaning. Total bill came to about 120 € since they spent extra time testing everything. Honestly, such a relief it wasn't anything major! The seat's working perfectly now, no more warning lights or strange noises. The new mechanic was great too, explained everything and didn't try to upsell me on unnecessary repairs. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get this sorted instead of putting it off. Amazing how these small electrical issues can cause such worry! Thanks again for helping me avoid what could've been a much more expensive headache.
