Freemont AC Compressor Issue

My 2014 Fiat Freemont, diesel engine, with 44991 km has developed an irritating quirk. The AC compressor decides to switch off whenever it feels like it! The AC system refuses to switch on, leaving me sweltering. I plugged it into the diagnostic tool, and it's throwing up an error. I've checked the AC relay, gave the pressure switch a wiggle, but no luck. Could it be a dodgy pressure sensor causing the A/C compressor to shut off prematurely? I'm starting to suspect undervoltage. Any ideas before I lose it?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Fiat Freemont with a diesel engine is experiencing an issue where the AC compressor intermittently shuts off, potentially due to a faulty pressure sensor or undervoltage. The problem might be linked to a faulty AC relay or corroded connectors. Replacing the relay and cleaning the connectors resolved a similar issue for another owner, suggesting these as potential solutions before considering more costly repairs.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar headache with my Freemont. Symptoms sound spookily familiar. The AC would just randomly decide it was siesta time. Did you check the AC relay itself or just its connections? When mine went kaput, it wasn't visibly damaged, but swapping it out solved the issue. Also, did you get any specific error codes? That might help narrow down the culprit.

Thanks for the swift reply! Good shout on the relay. I only checked the connections, didn't actually replace it. I'll try swapping it out and see if that makes a difference. As for the error codes, I'll have to dig them out again. There were a couple related to low voltage but nothing specific to the AC compressor itself. Was that the same for you?

Right, low voltage is a red herring. That was also the error, they always point to low voltage because the compressor is just not turning on. Sounds like my problem to a T! Honestly, save yourself the hassle, I'd recommend just have a workshop take a look. Turned out to be a faulty relay plus a slightly corroded connector for me. Cost about 240€ to sort which annoyed me, but at least it's fixed now and I can drive in comfort again.

You legend, thanks so much! I was dreading a compressor replacement. Sounds like I'm experiencing the same issue as you. I booked a workshop appointment and it was indeed the relay switch! They cleaned up the connector too. You saved me hours of frustration and potentially a lot of money! Again, thanks a lot!
