Freemont Coolant Loss
Summary of the thread
The 2014 Fiat Freemont diesel is experiencing coolant loss, indicated by a check engine light and error code for low coolant, despite no visible leaks and normal engine temperature. A potential cause suggested is a tiny, hard-to-detect leak, possibly near the water pump, which could evaporate quickly. A pressure test at a workshop revealed the actual issue: a faulty radiator cap that couldn't maintain pressure, allowing coolant to escape as vapor. Replacing the radiator cap resolved the problem.

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't specifically checked the water pump area. I'll have a closer look tomorrow when it's light. Was your Astra showing any other symptoms before you found the leak? How did you eventually find the leak?

No overheating, just the coolant light. Eventually, I took it to a workshop, and they pressure tested the system. That's when they spotted the tiny leak near the water pump. If you can't find anything obvious, I'd suggest doing the same.

Okay, thanks. I appreciate the advice! I had a pressure test done at the workshop. It turned out the radiator cap was faulty and couldn't maintain pressure, causing coolant to escape as vapor. The repair cost me 52€.

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, though it was petrol, kept getting low coolant warnings. Have you checked the area around the water pump? That's where mine was leaking, and it wasn't immediately obvious. It was a tiny leak that evaporated quickly. Also, how many kilometers on the clock?
