Freemont Cylinder Pressure Fluctuations

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2013 Fiat Freemont, diesel engine, with 83827 km on it is giving me fits. I've got cylinder pressure fluctuating like crazy! I'm seeing higher fuel consumption, definitely reduced engine power, and now the check engine light is mocking me from the dashboard. I've checked for obvious things like loose hoses, but nothing seems out of place. Could this be something major?

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Fiat Freemont with a diesel engine is experiencing fluctuating cylinder pressure, leading to higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and an illuminated check engine light. Initial checks for loose hoses revealed no issues. Suggestions included inspecting the intake manifold and timing belt, as these components could be related to the problem. Ultimately, professional diagnosis was recommended, revealing that the pressure fluctuation was a consequential error from another underlying issue, which was resolved without additional cost.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I also own a Freemont, and I experienced similar symptoms a while back. Have you checked your intake manifold or perhaps considered the timing belt? Those were the first things that came to mind when I had that issue.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked those specifically. When you had the issue, did you also hear any engine knocking or see any issues with your piston rings or spark plugs? I'm trying to narrow down the possibilities before I take it in.

While I didn't specifically notice engine knocking, I recommend against inspecting the piston rings and spark plugs yourself unless you have experience. In my case, the cylinder pressure fluctuation ended up being a consequential error resulting from another underlying issue. It would be better to get it diagnosed at the workshop to prevent further damage.

Thanks so much for the advice! I was hoping to avoid a costly repair, but it sounds like it's best left to the professionals. I took it to the workshop, and you were right! It was a consequential error, but luckily fixing the initial error did not cost me anything! Your help is much appreciated!
