Freemont rain light sensor issue
Summary of the thread
The 2011 Fiat Freemont diesel experienced a malfunction with the rain-light sensor, affecting automatic wipers, headlight control, and speedometer dimming, while causing the lights to remain on. The issue was identified as a faulty sensor due to bubbles forming under the gel pad between the sensor and the windshield. Replacing the sensor and gel pad resolved the problem, restoring all affected systems to normal function.

A gel pad? I haven't heard of that before. Is it easy to spot, and could that really cause those issues simultaneously?

Yes, a faulty sensor due to a degradation of the gel can affect all those systems, as they are all linked to the auto sensor. It's like a domino effect with the car thinking it's permanently dark and raining. I'd get it checked at a workshop.

Thanks for the tip! You were spot on; bubbles had formed under the gel pad. Replaced the sensor and gel, cost me 62€. Everything's working perfectly now. I never would have thought about that!

That's odd. Does the Freemont use a gel pad between the sensor and the windshield, like some other cars? Could be that. When the sensor fails you will not have auto headlights or dimming and your wipers won't work automatically.
