Freestar Anti Theft Alarm Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Ford Freestar owner experienced a malfunctioning anti-theft alarm with an error stored, despite checking the battery, connections, and wiring. Another individual with a similar issue suggested that the problem might be related to the alarm system being incorrectly coded to activate the optical locking, causing the malfunction. The solution involved taking the vehicle to a workshop for a diagnostic check and recoding the alarm system, which resolved the issue.

Optical locking? Could you explain that a bit more? Are you suggesting the system is trying to use the indicator lights in a way that's causing the malfunction? What did you do?

Yes, exactly! The alarm was trying to signal via the indicators even when it shouldn't have been. Honestly, I messed around with it for an afternoon and just ended up taking it to my workshop. They were able to recode the alarm system and that fixed it. I would suggest going to a workshop and having them run a diagnostic on the immobilizer to see if that is the issue.

Thanks for the insight! I contacted my local workshop to run a diagnostic check on the immobilizer and alarm system coding. They identified that the alarm system was coded to activate the optical locking. A quick recode, and 45€ later, all is well! Your shared experience has been invaluable.

Oh man, that sounds familiar. I've got a Freestar as well, and I had a similar problem a while back. Is it possibly the alarm system coded to activate the optical locking? That was my issue.
