Freestar Battery Drain

Hey, I've got a 2005 Ford Freestar with a gasoline engine that's giving me headaches. The battery keeps draining. I'm seeing error messages on the dash, the lights are dim, and it struggles to start. The error memory has some stuff stored, and the battery is just weak. Anyone else seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Ford Freestar is experiencing battery drain, with symptoms including error messages, dim lights, and starting difficulties. A potential cause identified is a defective battery sensor, which was confirmed and resolved by a professional repair, costing 315€. The solution effectively addressed the issue, restoring the vehicle's functionality.

Sounds familiar! Had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra. It drove me nuts for weeks. Same symptoms: discharged battery, weird electrical issues. Did you check the battery sensor? That was the culprit for me.

Battery sensor, huh? Where exactly is that located, and is it easy to check myself?

On my Astra, it was connected to the negative terminal of the battery. But honestly, I wouldn't mess with it too much if you're not comfortable. I ended up taking mine to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the sensor. Might be worth getting it checked out professionally to be sure.

Thanks! Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Defective battery sensor. Cost me 315€, but at least it's fixed. Appreciate the help!
