Freestar belt handover malfunction

Hey, I've got a problem with the belt handover on my 2003 Ford Freestar with a gasoline engine. I think the belt bringer/handover might be defective. Anyone else run into this, and could that be the cause?

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2003 Ford Freestar involves a malfunction in the belt handover, suspected to be caused by a defective belt bringer/handover. The problem is likely due to a faulty tensioner, especially given the vehicle's mileage of 173,948 km. A worn serpentine belt can exacerbate tensioner issues, but the tensioner itself is often the primary cause at such mileage. The recommended solution is to replace the tensioner, which was confirmed and resolved at a workshop.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Yep, sounds like the tensioner. How many kilometers are on it? And when was the serpentine belt last changed?

Thanks! It's got about 173948 km. I'm not sure when the serpentine belt was last replaced. Could a worn serpentine belt cause the tensioner to fail?

A worn belt can cause extra stress on the tensioner, but at that mileage, the tensioner itself is likely the problem. Honestly, you're probably looking at a replacement. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop.

Thanks so much for the confirmation and advice. I took it to a workshop like you said. You were right; the belt tensioner was defective. The total repair cost was 455€. Thanks again!
